How We're Giving Back
At Aria Davidson, our goal is to empower, educate, and amplify the voices of this and the next generation of teens so they can feel confident wherever they are. Whether it’s their first period or their fifteenth, we believe every teen should have menstrual products that make them feel valued and supported.
As part of this effort, Aria Davidson is committed to supporting teen communities in need through our social impact work. These initiatives are built on three pillars:
Breaking Stigma: We believe there is power in the way we talk about ourselves. Only through education and fighting the shame that is often associated with our bodies and their natural functions can we learn to truly accept ourselves and advocate for ourselves.
Improving Menstrual Care: Reusable menstrual products are not only better for the environment, but can also help menstruating young people feel more confident as they navigate their first period. By improving the efficacy and sustainability of our products, and increasing access to reusable products, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of menstruation while meeting the needs of young menstruating women.
Protecting Youth: Puberty can be a confusing and challenging transition for teens. We want to create safer spaces and platforms to celebrate young people’s individuality and creativity, and to empower them to express their ideas and concerns, so they can feel confident wherever they are.
Our work is ongoing and far from done. To ensure our efforts are productive, we are focused on developing long-term projects with the right partners and ensuring that all the work we do is fully considered across these three pillars of social impact. Below is a summary of the initiatives we have championed over the years.
2022 - 2023
Education Empowerment
We know that education is key to helping young people prepare for their first menstrual period and build confidence during adolescence - and we have heard from teachers, educators and students that menstrual products and learning materials are more accessible in the classroom.
So we developed a project to provide better and more accessible menstrual education, introducing educators and students to quality reusable menstrual underwear and providing them with inclusive menstrual education materials. #AriaDavidsonProjects
At Aria Davidson, we believe in oversharing. We live in a world where talking openly about periods, using anatomically correct terms to describe body parts, and asking for more when it comes to period care is seen as radical. But why?
To fight period stigma and period poverty, we’ve partnered with PERIOD. to launch a year-long giveback initiative, calling on our community to get involved—to publicly tell their stories and turn the notion of “oversharing” on its head. Sweet, sad, and hilarious, these stories capture and highlight the rich variety of experiences around this often-hidden topic, even during menstruation.
For every #PeriodOvershare post, Kt by Knix will donate a reusable period product to communities in need in partnership with PERIOD., focusing on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and two-spirit (LGBTQIA2+) youth and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth.
How the donation works
From May 2022 to May 2023, we partnered with PERIOD. to distribute products based on community organizations participating in the program. After the project ended, Kt donated more than 20,000 pairs of reusable menstrual products.
Why did we partner with PERIOD.?
PERIOD. is a youth-driven nonprofit dedicated to ending period poverty and stigma through services, education, and advocacy. By distributing menstrual products, developing youth leadership, and advocating for period equality in policy, PERIOD. aims to shine a spotlight on those disproportionately affected by period poverty and support local efforts for period equality.
2021
From May to November 2021, we donated more than 11,500 pairs of period underwear to communities in need through our partnership with PERIOD. and I Support the Girls.
In May, we organized a campaign to donate reusable period underwear to PERIOD. From June to November, we partnered with I Support the Girls to donate one pair of Aria Davidson printed panties for every pair sold as part of a new initiative to provide comfort and support to trans and non-binary people.
